Lesbian/Bi Celebrity Girlfriends
7 January 2009 8:30 PM, PST
While the recent passage of Proposition 8 in California was devastating to Lgbt people and our supporters everywhere, the issue reinvigorated an international debate about gay marriage.
It also drew attention to a number of famous couples, like Ellen DeGeneres and Portia de Rossi, who wed in the small window of time that gay marriage was legal in California.
Even celebrity lesbian couples who didn’t get married, such as Melissa Etheridge and partner Tammy Lynn Michaels Etheridge were queried in the press for their views on Prop. 8 and what it means to the future of Lgbt rights. Whether appearing on news programs or talk shows, the couples interviewed were typically presented as every bit as committed and family-centric as any heterosexual married couple.
Most of us are on a first name basis with the partners of out celebrities like Ellen, Melissa, and Rosie O’Donnell (her partner is Kelli Carpenter-o'Donnell

Interview with Sarah Rice from "The Real World: Brooklyn"
6 January 2009 8:40 PM, PST
When The Real World: Brooklyn premieres on MTV tonight, viewers are likely to want to find out more about Sarah Rice.
The 22-year-old student from San Francisco looks different from most of the Real World housemates. Her tattoo-covered arms and dark black hair set her apart from many of the show's perky, blond female housemates primarily interested in partying and hooking up with their roommates. Rice does not seem interested in either.
In the past, Sarah has dated only women, and she is now in a monogamous relationship with a man. She doesn't define her sexuality, but knows that a lot of other people would like her to.
Putting your personal life on a show like The Real World does beg for some explanations, and sets up expectations of an on-camera romantic rendezvous. But despite any preconceived notions of the reality series, Rice said we can expect the cast this season to be diverse,

Lindsay Lohan is tired of rumors starting
6 January 2009 6:00 AM, PST
Lindsay Lohan and Samantha Ronson's relationship has clearly fascinated many people. Several were among the "Is she or isn't she?" variety, while others are simply celebrity gossip junkies who can't venture onto blogs without seeing a piece about the young couple at least once a day.
And then there's Whoopi Goldberg, the one living person in America who didn't know who Ronson and Lohan were until Perez Hilton was on The View yesterday and caught her up to speed. (Whoopi: "I don't know who he's talking about." Sherri: "She's a DJ.")
While on the show, however, Hilton discussed what his blog and every other celebrity "news" site and even typically reputable media outlets were blasting: Lindsay and Samantha had broken up. Sure, there have been plenty of rumors of awful fight and arguments on trains, planes, in New York, Los Angeles, Paris, you name it. But this time, it was the alleged end.

Ask AfterEllen.com (Jan. 6, 2009)
5 January 2009 9:14 PM, PST
Taking a page from our friends at AfterElton.com, who have a weekly entertainment column called "Ask the Flying Monkey," we're introducing a weekly column to answer your entertainment-related questions.
Want to know the status of a particular movie, TV show, or band? Wondering what a certain actress is up to these days? Want to know if someone is openly gay? (We won't out anyone, but we'll let you know what they've said publicly.)
Send your questions to askafterellen@gmail.com — with your first name, city and country — and Karman Kregloe and I will try to hunt down the answers for you (we'll trade off writing this column each week). Not all questions will be answered, and it may take a few weeks to answer some of them, but we'll try to get to as many as we can.
Note: this isn't a personal advice column — please post your dating

Salma plays nurse on "30 Rock"
5 January 2009 1:00 PM, PST
Things to like about 2009 already: In 360 days we won’t have to call the decade the aughts anymore, in two weeks new tenants move into 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue, and in a few days time, Salma Hayek and Tina Fey will finally be together — well, on television that is.
Salma makes her multi-episode debut Thursday on 30 Rock as an in-home nurse for Jack Donaghy’s (Alec Baldwin) mother. Her character and Jack’s later become involved. See their first meeting here, while I dream about Salma’s red dress some more.
Salma’s role continues 30 Rock’s season of famous faces. While the disease of gueststaritis can be fatal for a show, I’ve rather enjoyed all the celebrities — from Oprah to Jennifer Aniston and Steve Martin — who have stopped by for a stint. It helps that the show’s core stories, from Jack’s mommy issues to Liz’s baby fever,

Oops, Kathy Griffin did it again
5 January 2009 12:00 PM, PST
Emmy-award winning comedian Kathy Griffin is in the hot seat again, this time for using foul language on the live broadcast of CNN's New Year's Eve coverage in New York City with Anderson Cooper.
As the show was about to go to a commercial, a man in the crowd began to heckle Griffin and she responded with the comment, "Screw you. Why don't you get a job, buddy?" You know what, I don't go to your job and knock the d**** out of your mouth."
Blogger Michael K on dlisted.com noted that the joke was originally told on the "GloboChem" skit on the HBO sketch comedy series, Mr. Show, but we have to give Griffin credit for making the most of a perfect opportunity.
If you want to see the magic as it unfolds, watch the clip below.
CNN made this official statement about the incident: "We recognize that

"Lesbian Vampire Killers" teases us with a trailer
5 January 2009 8:00 AM, PST
I would like, if you'll indulge me, to talk about why grammar, and particularly syntax, matters. Take, for example, the upcoming film Lesbian Vampire Killers. Right, so what do you infer about this film from those three words? Is it about lesbian vampires who kill? Is it about lesbians who kill vampires? Or is it about people who kill lesbian vampires? See, syntax does matter.
Now, thanks to the first teaser trailer for Lesbian Vampire Killers (which is clearly competing with Snakes on a Plane for least subtle movie title ever), we know the answer. It's about people who kill lesbian vampires. Bummer.
Look, I like a good killer flick. I enjoy almost any vampire movie. And, clearly, I love lesbians. But a film about lesbian vampires who just get killed? Hmm, I'm going to need to see more than 51-seconds of cheesy voiceovers and big fonts to know if I'm on board.

Famke goes down on "The Farm"
5 January 2009 7:00 AM, PST
Before I drop this piece of saliva-inducing news, let me be clear that it falls firmly in the rumor category. In fact, only one site in the vast conspiracy of internets mentions this tidbit — and relies on an anonymous source for the info. So why am I telling you? Because I’m testing out the whole “create your own reality” concept — and this is a reality I really want to create: Famke Janssen in The L Word spin-off, The Farm.
Six Degrees of Everything reports that Janssen plays an inmate in the 20-minute video that will be presented to Showtime in hopes they’ll develop The Farm:
Although we don’t have a confirmed sighting by one of my sources Famke Janssen was supposed to have been on set [in Vancouver] playing a prisoner being shackled and getting interrogated. The name Famke was confirmed when one of my sources heard "That

Spoilers and speculation for the rest of this season's "Gossip Girl"
5 January 2009 6:00 AM, PST
Ah, the first week of the new year. The holiday greetings and gay happy meetings have come to a close, and you're left with a full voicemail box, an overflowing inbox and the sense that the entire world is tilting left, which may indicate that you're still slightly hungover from New Year's Eve or that you have the beginnings of an inner ear infection. The only thing keeping you afloat as you trudge through the longest day of the work year is this: You know she loves you. And tonight, at 8 Et on the CW, Gossip Girl returns.
Because I love you too (though obviously not as much as Gossip Girl does), I've compiled all of the spoilers and speculation about the second half of Season 2 into one post. There are actual, legitimate, confirmed spoilers below. Read at your own risk!
First up, Michelle Trachtenberg will return as Serena's frenemy,
